My Grandfather was James Henry Bess b.1898 McMinnville, TN; his father was John T Bess b.1870 m. Virginia Hill b.1880 from Warren Co. (I don't know where John T. Bess was born, but just found out his mother was Sarah Bess. She was not married when she gave birth to John T. Bess so it's a little strange to follow this link now) Anyway, Sarah Bess's father was Eli Bess b.1813 in SC- wife was Lilar Kilian b.1816.

Gary, Liz and I have already connected elsewhere. Wiley R. Bess and Susannah Killian are my GGGrandparents on my mothers side. I wanted to put this on in case you hadn't seen it. This is from a book called the Warren County Story by Eugene M. Wisemann.

Bess Family
John Bess was born between 1780 and 1790 and lived in Spartansburg, South Carolina by 1800. He married Lucinda____, and had 5 known children, the first 4 born in South Carolina, then to Tennessee between 1815 and 1820, and listed in the Warren County Census as John Bass, and in the same census his older son is listed as Bazel Bass. His children were:
(1) Basil (Bazel) Bess, born 1804-06, SC married Polly (Mary) Johnson, born 1787 SC and had a son John born 1834 in Tennessee.
(2) Eli Bess, born abt 1813, married Lear (Lehar/Leah) Florence Killian(m), who was born abt 1816 in North Carolina, daughter of Daniel Killian and sister of Ambrose Killian., they had 16 children: Mary 1833, Nancy 1836, Alias/Alvin/Alice 1843, Wiley 1845; Sarah J 1847; Martha 1849; Lucas 1850; Medley Caroline 1851; Cara (Cora) 1853; Ephenia 1854; Rufus Dock 1856; Andrew Jackson 1857; Cora 1859;

(5) Wiley (Wylie) R. Bess, born abt 1820 in Tennessee, married Susanna or Susan ---born 1827, Tennessee, and had 12 children, the first 3 born in Tennessee, the last born in Arkansas.
