Thomas Jefferson Byars 1866 - 1936 (person id I19506) is listed as spouse of Pauline B Fincher (person id I19507) which I believe is correct. However, that was probably his second wife. His first wife was Cora Bell Byars, whose maiden name was Fincher. She could have been Pauline's sister. I have a copy of Cora Bell Byars's death certificate that I can email to you.

Notes:
Hi Anita,
I have corresponded with the ladies in the genealogy department of the Forest City, NC library-they have been very helpful and I understand they have many documents pertaining to folks living in Rutherford County at its inception. Stripling's parents, William Byars and Sarah Ann Doggett Byars, settled on Broad River and Floyd's Creek. Below is an email I received from Cecil Lovelace, a local Baptist minister and a passage from Bridges to the Past regarding the Suttle and Byars families. I understand there is a large Byars family in the Cliffside area. I hope you have an enjoyable trip.
_________________________
Hi Tim. Good to hear from you. I live just a short distance from Floyd's Creek, and Broad River. Broad River crosses Hwy 221 South just about a mile above the NC/SC state line. Floyd's Creek crosses 221 South just about two miles North of where the river crosses. There is a pretty good bend in the road to the point that the road is running about NW to SE at the crossing of the creek, so I would say they meet somewhere within a couple of miles West of Hwy 221. I am a minister and only a couple weeks ago I preached in revival services at a church that has a large Byars family. Some of those live just a mile or so down the road from me.
Blessings,
Cecil

"Before the Revolution, the Suttle and Byars families moved westward across North Carolina to Old Tryon(Rutherford County) where they settled on Broad River at Floyd's Creek. During the Revolution, both Joseph Suttle and William Byars died, leaving Molly and Sarah Ann with large families to rear alone. Later in life the sisters remarried. Molly to Isaiah Blackwell and Sarah Ann to Joel Blackwell."

Notes:
Comments: I am a direct descendant of Joel Blackwell. There are some corrections I would like to make to your site about my family.
1. We have no proof of where Joel was born. We do believe he was from VA, but county is not known nor or his parents.
2. Henrietta had a son John B. who was her first born child that you need to add.
3. Peter does not have a documented middle name. However, he did name a son Sylvester which was an uncommon name for the Blackwells.
4. The marriage records for Peter were either lost, misplaced, or never turned in to the courthouse. Therefore, we have no marraige date other than guessing about 1809 in Rutherford Co. NC.
Thank you for making these corrections to your site. Eleanor
4. Peter was born ca 1788.

Yes, Phil -- this JOEL BLACKWELL, SENIOR was married to SARAH ANN DOGGETT BYARS at the time of his death in 1821 in Rutherford County, NC. JOEL BLACKWELL, SENIOR was married three times -- first to HENRIETTA BYARS who died before 1783 -- secondly to REBECCAH WATKINS -- and thirdly, to the widow SARAH ANN DOGGETT BYARS.
The subjects of this post by me were JOEL BLACKWELL, II, MARY BLACKWELL, and FELIX BLACKWELL who were the children of JOEL BLACKWELL, JUNIOR and LYDIA BYARS, and which three children were identified as minor children by JOEL BLACKWELL, SENIOR in his will of 1817 which was probated in July Court of 1821. Subsequent litigation in 1823 named those three minor children as JOEL, MARY, AND FELIX.
