I am familiar with a William Elliott (dob 11/14/1764) that moved to Marion Co, TN. He had a daughter named Elizabeth "Betsy" Elliott. James Leath of Shenandoah Valley, VA, ca. 1730's [possible antecedent of Josiah]

My earliest known ancestor in America is this James Leath who settled on the "Hite and Mckay's" land grant, Shanandoah Valley, VA, in 1736, in what is probably present-day Page County. I wish to trace this James Leath back through his travels in this country to his port-of-entry. Any info would be helpful. My primary info source is a book called "The Leath/Leith Family History", vol.1, the descendents of James Leath of the Shenandoah Valley, VA, down through the eighth generation, by Leslie R. Waltman and Andrew L. Leath, printed by Dothan Printing & Litho, Dothan, AL. There is a website for ordering this book. My lineage of this man's family follows a route from VA down thru TN into AL where I now reside near Birmingham. There is physical evidence of the oldest recorded grave headstone in Jefferson Cty., TN,(near Dandridge at the Shady Grove Campground Methodist Church cemetary), of James grandson Josiah.
