John married Christina Mayes in 1832 in White County, Tennessee. Christina was born on 1 Jan 1815 in (White County) Tennessee; died on 8 Feb 1894 in (Crawford County, Arkansas); was buried in Love Cemetery, Dean Springs, Crawford County, Arkansa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. George Washington Humphrey was born on 21 Jun 1836 in (White County) Tennessee; died on 1 May 1915 in Akins, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma; was buried in Akins Cemetery, Akins, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma.
2. Louisa Jane Humphrey was born on 17 May 1839 in White County, Tennessee; died before 1897 in White County, Tennessee.
3. David I. Humphrey was born on 10 Dec 1844 in White County, Tennessee; died in 0Mar 1875 in White County, Tennessee; was buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, Coffee County, Tennessee.

John married Abigail Eastwood on 10 Jun 1804 in (White County, Tennessee). Abigail was born on 14 Dec 1776 in (Hyde County) North Carolina; died on 11 Sep 1853 in White County, Tennessee; was buried in Shady Grove Cemetery, White County, Tennessee. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Judith, John Humphrey was the beginning of the Humphrey population of White County Tennessee. John was born on May 4th 1778 in North Carolina {probably Pasquotank County} and died on August 5th 1864 in White County Tennessee.

Abigail Eastwood was born on December 14th 1774 in North Carolina {Hyde County we believe} and died on September 11th 1852 in White County. She was the daughter of Israel and Elizabeth Eastwood of Hyde County North Carolina.

John was the neighbor of the Eastwood family in 1800 in Hyde County. They were married on June 10, 1804 in Hyde County we believe but as yet we have not found a "legal" marriage license.

Both are buried in the Old shady Grove Cemetery in White County.

This info came fron HER bible record that is owned by the Humphrey family in White County.

There is no doubt that John's mother was named Sarah/Sally.
The question is what was her last name. The Walling information came from "notes" attached to the bible record from another family (the Roberts fammily I believe?) from White County.

I have found NO PROOF that her name was Walling except for these notes written in the 1980s.

There is a community in White County named Walling as you probably know but John's Mother and Father as far as we know did not make the migration to white County. In fact we believe that his father David died before John was 15 years of age and that Sarah (his mother) died in 1791 in Hyde County and John was "taken in" or "hired on " by the Eastwood family befor he married Abigail in 1804.

As some of the records (in the notes I have) were wrong on the Roberts family then the note that her last name was Walling may also be in error. I am still searching the archives.
